New Homework This Week

Students have been assigned new reading tasks on readworks.org for this week's homework. We spent one class period setting up accounts and learning the program. Each student has been sent the log in steps on a shared Google Doc. If they are having trouble logging in, please direct them to the shared Google Doc that they used in class.

We have been studying for a Science test during class time. We are learning what it means to study and what works best for each person. Suggestions from our class meeting: use the provided list of vocabulary and concepts, look up the information and then write it in your own words (printing information down helps you remember) writing down the information more than once and then saying it aloud (talking about it with a partner or saying it aloud by yourself will help) repeat the information in different ways zoom in to the vocabulary and concepts you don't know or can't remember and have this as your priority- quiz yourself on it (read or say the word and then think of the definition or vice versa) highlight just the important words and then scan what you've highlighted and quiz yourself on that (look at it, remember it, look away, say it aloud/write it down, check) remove yourself from distractions if you need to move your body and study, do it- some people will pa...

The Astrodome Visit astrodome.ca skyscience.ca You can download the program that the astronomy educator used during part of the presentation today (for free on a computer) at stellarium.org (the app version for tablets cost). What We Learned: Uranus is the furthest planet from the sun in our solar system. Pluto is a dwarf planet. Earth spins (rotates) around its axis. Mercury is the hottest planet. There is a star called "Beetle Juice". The Earth revolves around the sun. The North Star is about 400 light years away. The sun's highest point in the sky, every day, may not be exactly at noon (12:00). The sun rises in the East and then moves to the West, setting in the West. The Big Dipper and the Little Dipper are actually parts of constellations called Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. Ursa means bear, major means big and minor means small. Students are reminded to come tomorrow dressed in a special outfit. There is no need to buy anything new. Today, we brainstormed clothing options (e.g. collared shirt, solid coloured pants, dress, skirt, sweater, a top that doesn't have bold logos, etc.) 9:30 am – Winter Celebration AM performance 10:30 am – AFS Holiday Craft & Bake Sale/Ugly Sweater Edition 1:30 pm – Winter Celebration PM Performance 2:30 pm – AFS Holiday Craft & Bake Sale/Ugly Sweater Edition There is no 'Tasty Tuesday' on December 10th.
